Obituary for Ellen M. Fewer

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Ella Mae Fewer
(May 1, 1932 - November 10, 2022).

Predeceased by her husband, Charlie; her parents Laura and Peter Murphy; her brothers Thomas, Michael, Randolph, Ernest, Aloysius and her sister, Rosaline Synard.

Leaving to mourn are her nine daughters and sons in law and her three sons and daughters in law. Also leaving to mourn are her 23 grandchildren: Todd, Jabez, Joella, Craig, Chris, Chastity, Russell, Ryan, Charlene, Cheryl, Calvin, Samantha, Karla, Taylor, Ellie, James, Andrew, Morgan, Jacob, Jade, Bailey, Laura and Hanna as well as her 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grand child. Also leaving to mourn, are her sisters Ursula and Loretta, her brother Cyril and a huge circle of family and friends.

Mom was known for her wit, her spunk and her zest for life. She never shied away from hard work and commitment to her family. She relished a bit of fun and embraced new learning, especially technology which kept her connected to her “young ones.” Mom was a devoted homemaker, an avid knitter and bingo player. She loved traveling to visit her children and grandchildren.

Unfortunately, her health hampered her travel plans in the last few years. This didn’t stop us from bringing fun to her. She always loved our family get togethers especially at her home in Parker’s Cove. We will miss her daily calls, texts and her funny jokes and posts.

We would sincerely like to thank our sister Joan, who was there to support mom on a daily basis for the past three years. We felt relieved knowing that mom was supported, while the rest of us couldn’t always be there. Huge appreciation is also extended to the hard-working team at the Renal Dialysis Unit at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre as well as the amazing staff at the Marystown Retirement Centre, especially Joan Power who mom said was “her angel”. Mom was truly treated like a Queen at both places, and we appreciated that.

Mom had a witty sense of humour, and she was known to tease those whom she cared about the most. She would want us to remember her in a fun- loving way and to stay connected. She loved life and embraced it to the end. We will miss the Queen of our family.

“Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us, to let us know they are happy.” An Inuit Proverb.
